I have been arguing, for the past several months, on the political discussion boards about the issue of Obama’s birth certificate. I have no written about it, here, until now; frankly, I did not think anything would come of it, and nothing did…but it is a shame, and we might be in trouble, because nothing came of it.
Briefly, the issue revolves around the question of where Obama was born. The United States Constitution, Article II, Section 1 states that “No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President. Obama claims to have been born in Hawaii, and various web sites have produced a ‘certification of live birth’ as evidence of this. There is circumstantial evidence, however, that Obama was not born in the United States….nothing positive, but intriguing hints
An unknown blogger on an Indonesian blog says, “Barrak Hussein Obama II was born to a white American Ann Dunham and Kenyan Barrak Hussein Obama Snr, in Nyang’oma Kogelo now in Kenya.” Obama’s grandmother says “he is a child of our (Kenyan) tribe.”
There is no record, in any hospital in Hawaii, of Obama’s birth, and Obama’s family has given different identifications of the hospital in which Obama was born, as if they do not know.
One would think that this would be an easy issue to resolve. Accept the published ‘birth certificates’ as genuine, and move on…however, therein lies the problem. Immediately upon the publishing of the first copy of the ‘certification of live birth’ by the Daily Kos blog, and the Los Angeles Times, discrepancies were pointed out questioning the legitimacy of those birth certificates. Here is a pretty good summary of all those conclusions, but the bottom line is that the certification of live birth published on the web is very questionable. Further, this is NOT a birth certificate, but a document that Hawaii issues upon registration of the birth of an American citizen not born on U.S. soil, or in a hospital.
So, where is the actual birth certificate? The governor of Hawaii has sworn that there is a copy of a birth certificate for Barack Obama on file in the vault of the Hawaiian department of records. She also states that, according to Hawaiian law, they will not release this unless asked by the owner, Barack Obama…and Obama refuses to release this certificate. Moreso, Obama has hired a law firm, and spent over a million dollars to ensure that this certificate is not released. That is where the issue stands. Despite a dozen law suits before the Supreme Court, we still have not seen that birth certificate. The media, in love with the President-elect as they are, are absolutely silent about this, and the Republicans, for whatever reason, have not pushed the issue. For all practical purposes, it does not exist as an issue, except for some whackos who continue to ask…does the President meet the Constitutional requirements for the office? Does his refusal to produce a genuine birth certificate indicate that he has something to hide?
We might never know until, in a few years, the truth comes out, one way or another, but I am appalled at the silence, on everyone’s part. If this were a Republican, the press would be all over it…but the charismatic steamroller that is Barack Obama has turned the press into jelly; Chris Matthews admitted, on the air, that Obama ‘makes his legs tingle.’ He is obviously not the only one.
So, what is the bottom line, here? I do not know. I am left with a feeling of the boy in the story “the King’s New Clothes,” trying to find someone to recognize that the King is not actually wearing a new suit of clothes, but has fooled all of us and is actually walking naked among us. Obviously, the political field is not the same as I remember. Obviously, many people were so eager to have a black man elected they were willing to ignore basic Constitutional issues…and what does that mean? We all can supply our own implications, but I am very saddened.
